Svitlana Melikhova from Bakhmut
Hi! My name is Svitlana. I am a mother of 2 beautiful daughters. Ira is 8 years old and Adelina is 6 years old. I want to share what happened on the day when russia came to us with war. On February 24, we woke up to the sounds of powerful explosions. The walls and windows were shaking. Why? Why did they come to our land? What do they want from our Ukraine? The first few days we were terrified. I could not understand what to do next. How can I protect my children? Where should I take them? Where to find a safe place? What things to collect? Will a rocket fly into our house? When the war started, we lived at home in our town for another 2 months. Going to bed, I prayed to God that we could survive the night, meet the dawn and that everything would be fine with us. I was very worried. After 2 months, my nervous system could not stand it and I decided to take the children out of town. The situation in our town was getting worse and worse. Mortar fire, cluster fire, bombs, airstrikes, planes dropping bombs on us, it was very scary. Shops and banks stopped working. It was difficult to get the products, we decided to leave the town. We decided to go to a safer place. We have moved out, we are renting an apartment now, the rent is very expensive. Utilities are also expensive. We don’t have enough money to buy groceries. We live, we will manage. This war of russia against Ukraine has taken away our future, plans, and dreams, and we have no confidence in tomorrow. We don’t have a dream, it just disappeared. We simply exist. Ukraine will win in the future. We will endure. Ukraine is strong, it will win. As in fairy tales, good triumphs over evil. And Ukraine will defeat the enemy that came to our land. I am most afraid for the children, I am afraid that nothing bad will happen to them. I fear for their future. I want the war to end, we return to our home and live as before. The future, plans, dreams, friends, work.
