Good day! My name is Olena Yeletska. My family is from Kharkiv. The war was not a big surprise to us because we had heard rumors that something might happen, but we did not expect it to be so brutal. On February 24, at 4:30 in the morning, I was feeding my baby. At that moment, I heard the scariest sounds in my life. The husband immediately woke up, we looked at each other and realized that the war had begun. A full-scale war has come to our country. We didn’t know what to do. It was chaos. Messages from teachers began to arrive, telling children not to go to school. I cried and called my relatives. I was scared for them because the explosions were powerful. Some of our family left immediately, some stayed, we decided to stay because we thought it wouldn’t last long. We spent a week in Kharkiv in the basement, because every day there were explosions, and fighter jets were flying. We decided that we need to leave. We left for the west of Ukraine. Now we are in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. There are 7 of us, 4 adults and 3 children. The son is 8 years old, the son is 2 years old and the daughter is 8 months old. Before the war, I worked as an online translator, and my husband worked as a football coach. He got injured, had knee surgery 5 days ago, and lost his job. He will be unable to work for some time. I am working, but now there are very few orders for translations. We rent housing, we pay UAH 10,000 per month for it. It is very difficult for me on maternity leave and with my husband after the operation. Our savings are running out. We receive social benefits from the country of UAH 2,000. This is very little, we have to ask for help. Thank you!
